<back     Mustangs Of The Month    next>

1. Full of spirit and spunk, Mocha easily stands out as different from many of the other stallions of The Little Book Cliffs not only in looks but also in attitude! It is this tempestuous little stallion who would prove to be the inspiring character to one of our songs…..  "LET THEM BE WILD AND FREE"

2. Reading THE STORY BEHIND OUR NAME gives the setting of this particular encounter........

"……..Early the following morning as the sun was just starting to rise, we could begin to see clearly some of the horses that were still remaining in the open sage park. A feisty and elusive young stallion by the name of Mocha and his young mare Comet were in the far distance....."

3. Together they traversed back and forth across the field….side by side…..Mocha snortin' and blowin' and pacing…little Comet right by his side with every step he took.

4. For a moment as they stand still...... the bright morning sun captures their presence. Mocha turns his head and reveals that he has lost his left eye. Whatever situation it was that caused this mishap, he seemed to be doing just fine……and he absolutely loves his one and only little mare. This being October, it would probably be the last we would see of them until next year. It was during the winter months that followed... and the remembering of these two little wild ones and how they clung together valuing their relationship and freedom that inspired the writing of the song "Let Them Be Wild And Free".

5. Spring of 2012….we spot Mocha at a distance and he is alone. He looks like he has come through the winter just fine….except that it is apparent he is now once again a bachelor…..he has lost little Comet to another stallion. The few times we see him the following summer months he is either by himself ……..

6. ……or occasionally hanging out with another bachelor stallion. In this photo he is running with bachelor stallion Drummer.

7. Spring 2013….our first sighting of Mocha this year!….and he has picked up two great looking mares!…..Bay mare Sassy and her 5 year old daughter Sonoma. Mocha is once again back in the ranks as an official band stallion!

8. Mocha and his new mares…..he is so proud of his little family!

9.  Despite his disability of having only one eye, Mocha does amazingly well….yes, he's had to work hard for his mares, but none the less he is a very competent and worthy stallion to be admired and respected.

May he always be….wild and free…..
