May

<back     Mustangs Of The Month    next>

Over the winter months that followed  I would look at the photos I had taken of Legacy often and relive the experience in my mind…over and over…..which led to the writing of my first song about wild horses with the thought of preserving that special moment and emotion forever in music.

Here he is….Legacy himself as a little foal. Even though my first encounter with him wasn't until late 2010...I felt like I had known him from day 1.

It wasn't until the following May, 2011 before we would see him again…..It was a blustery day…and the horses seemed full of excitement….Legacy was still with his family, but in close proximity there were three other bachelors and a couple of mares that had not yet been claimed by any one particular stallion.

With a growing spirit of independence and adventure, Legacy ventures over to the other group of horses and buddies up to bachelor stallion Doc.

The two separate themselves from the others and are ready to have some fun!

This was just the beginning of a long period of play for these two boys. Practicing their big boy moves, they weren't always so graceful!

We had come across Legacy and his family again later on in that same month. Legacy's father, Buttermilk, is an amazingly strong and handsome looking stallion!

Looks to be a little "Father/Son" discussion going on here…..

….along with a little discipline for emphasis!…..

A good Father takes care to keep his son in line!

The summer had passed and we had not again seen Legacy until the middle of October. Hiking around, Bill and I spotted two horses in the distance and as we approached closer, why who other than Legacy! He had departed from his family band sometime over the summer and was now keeping company with another bachelor stallion….who????

Stepping out of the thick brush and shadows, I can now see that it is Journey! These boys were full of fun and friendliness!

Best Buds!

Bill and I just kicked back and let them entertain us for quite some time…Legacy, my little "Child Of The Wind" is such a handsome, young stallion now…..

One last good-bye…..This will probably be the last we see of them until next spring….I can only  wonder how long these two will hang together and what adventures are in store for them as they mature and seek out families of their own. For now though…all is good and peaceful in their little world. Once again, my time with Legacy has left me with inspiration and no doubt Bill and I will be singing his song often during the coming winter months…reliving our stories and memories of this past summer with the wild horses through our music.
